Tomorrow is a red letter day. We will have won our first battle, but not the war. Tomorrow Rep. Matthew Shea of Spokane’s 5th District will introduce Rachel’s L…aw into the Washington State Legislature, where it will be assigned a bill number and begin the process of hopefully being voted on and signed into law. We may not actually have the bill number until Friday, but the bill will be introduced tomorrow sometime. I want to thank all of you who have helped to make this happen thus far. Rep. Shea for sponsoring the legislation, and 2 other Spokane Representatives; Spokane’s Rep. Kevin Parker and Rep Jeff Holy for their support of the bill. I believe the bill first starts out in the Budget Committee which Rep. Shea is a member of before it must pass before it can be voted on by the full House. There are bound to be some tweaks and amendments along the way, but we have at least got it on the books during this year’s short Legislative session. Thanks to all of you who have helped and supported myself and Rachel’s Foundation in any way, kind, shape or form. Without everyone’s hard work we would never have gotten this far. Now the hard work really begins as we begin the push through the Legislature and the Senate to get this passed. We hope we can count on your continued support.
As a side note, Scott will be doing an interview Friday with the Spokesman-Review to discuss the proposed new law as well as the heroin epidemic that is going on in our city, but also throughout the country. At this time we are not sure when the article will run.
